This is a question that most people answer easily as either yes or no...for me I'm going to say sometimes. At times I feel like my TBR pile is too big and there is no way I have time to reread a book, but other times I find myself rereading one anyway.
So what's my critierion (it has to be one of the following, but not necessarily all of the following):
1. It's one of my favorites
2. I forgot what happened and/or I want to read the next book in the series
3. The movie is coming out
4. I heard the audio was amazing
5. We are discussing it in bookclub that month
6. I've joined a read-along
So that brings me to you...What makes you reread a book?
I'm a huge rereader! I love rereading books, especially when it's one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteI don't usually reread books that I don't like, so that makes for my reasons. I reread books to reexperince the magic of the first time I read them.
Great question! Like Julie, I think I re-read books because I want to remember the feelings I had the first time I read it. Not necessarily relive them, because I think you can never feel the same things the second time as you did the first.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I don't have a whole lot of time to reread books anymore, but I am going to be hosting a re-read-a-thon in April, and I'm dedicating the whole month to re-reading some old favorites. :)

I don't re-read as much as I used to. I remember a time when I used to do re-read all the time, but now... the TBR is way too long. The only times I do, is for the reasons you've mentioned but even then, I most just skim around for my favorite quotes.
ReplyDeleteGreat discussion. Usually it's just a phenomenal book that really stuck with me. A book I still think about and am anxious to re-visit. It's about the way they make me feel while reading that makes me want to re-read a book.
ReplyDeleteI reread books if I love them, or if the sequel comes out and I can't remember what happens. I haven't been doing too much rereading since I started blogging unfortnately.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the last time I reread a book. It's pretty sad actually. Usually before I read the sequel to a book I read my review and some others to refresh my memory, though!
ReplyDeleteI like re-reading a book if the movie is coming out or if the next book in the series is coming out. But what gets me to re-read a book multiple times is whether I feel like I get something new out of it each time. Plus, whether the characters and I are "friends."
ReplyDeleteFor me to re-read a book it has to be one that I loved when I read it the first time ... Like, I've re-read the Vampire Academy series 3 times because this is my favourite series ever :) !!
ReplyDeleteI sometimes re-read a book when the sequel is coming out and I'd like to have all the important facts in mind before reading the next book in the series ..
Or for instance I'll read Hunger Games soon because the movie is coming out :) !! I don't see any other reason why I'd re-read a book :)
