Today I'm participating in Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
Top Ten Books You Lied About (lied about reading, lied about NOT reading, lied about liking/disliking, etc....dish your dirty secrets!!)
1. The Odyssey and The Iliad by Homer. We had to read both of these novels in high school. I admit that I got the cliff notes version and just told my teacher I read them. After the discussions we had in class though I did actually go out and read the actual version of The Odyssey, but I haven't read The Illiad yet.
2. Midnight Champagne by A. Manette Ansay. I didn't really lie about not liking this book I just never stated my opinion. This is one of the books I discussed for my Adult Literature Book Club and most people seemed to like it. I didn't, so instead of an inquistivate attack (these ladies can by quite pushy) I just didn't say anything about it.
Wow, this is a really hard topic this week. I can't think of any more; I guess I pretty outspoken about what I read. What about you...what books have you lied about?
I don't think I'd ever be able to get through The Odyssey and The Iliad! Midnight Champagne doesn't seem like my kind of book, but I might read it!
ReplyDeleteTwo books don't classify as a list, I don't believe I could actually think of 10 'lies'!!
I couldn't find books about which I have lied....
ReplyDeleteHere is my Top Ten post!
I love Greek myths but I'd never be able to read the Iliad and the Odyssey.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to read The Odyssey and The Illiad. My husband has a copy of each, they just look so daunting.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a hard topic this week too. I guess I'm like you, If I don't like it I don't see any need to lie about it--and I'm not really sure why you'd lie about reading a book, unless you needed a grade. thanks for stopping by today.
ReplyDeleteThe Odyssey and the Illiad are two of my favorite stories. They are rich and fabulous and I've actually been meaning to reread them as it's been a year or so since the last time. I'm a Classics major so there's that, but even that aside, they're at their core great stories with fascinating people.
ReplyDeleteI'm like everyone else, I'd love to read The Odyssey and the Illiad but I am way to intimidated to take a shot!
ReplyDeleteHaha! I've had soooo many book group experiences like you describe in your number 2. Silence is usually my way of expressing disapproval. :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the Iliad and the Odyssey either. I'm sure they were assigned to me at some point.
ReplyDeleteCome check out The Scarlet Letter's Top Ten Tuesday
I could've added the Odyssey and Iliad to my list too. I completely forgot about them. I think I'll continue to "forget" them, lol. Thanks for stopping by blog earlier.
ReplyDeleteIts hard sometimes to say you didn't like a book if everyone around you loved it!

ReplyDeleteI had to teach the Iliad and I'm sure 99% of my students never read it. Go figure! =P
Haha! Great topic this week. I've definitely felt the need to lie about liking some fawned over classics when I really didn't. And I never got through The Odyssey or The Iliad. sighs
