Friday Night Date Night

On Fridays I wanted to do something a little different then what I normally do.  I decided that on Fridays I'm going to do movie reviews.  I'm hoping to review mostly movies adapted from books, but I'm sure other movies that were not based on books will pop up every now and then.  Hopefully some of these reviews will help you decide what to watch on your date night or a night of chillin with the girls.

So what was everyone doing approximately two weeks ago...if you were like me you were analyzing Breaking Dawn Part I.  I'm going to cheat a little and instead of writing a true review of the movie I'm going to ask you some questions.  Have you seen the movie yet (why or why not)?  Did you like it?  What changes from the book did you like and which ones were you upset about?

Of course since I'm asking you these questions I should probably answer them myself as well.  Yes I did see the movie (otherwise this post would either be all crazy talk or none existent).  As for my opinion of the movie, I have to say that I genuinely did like it.  I did not enjoy the first two Twilight movies.  As many of you know as cute as Robert Pattinson and Kristin Stewart are, I don't believe they are the most talented actors.  I was pleasantly surprised by the Eclipse movie, but I wonder if some of that has to do with my expectations being so low.  Breaking Dawn Part I was fun and fresh.  Of course there was the tortured, brooding vampire thing but other than that it was lighter and more full of life than the other movies.  I must say that I loved Jacob in this movie.  Taylor Lautner brought Jacob to life in a way that hasn't happened before.  I felt his pain and his compassion.  He made the movie for me.

The movie itself was gorgeous.  The settings were brilliant and I wouldn't mind a husband who brought me to a private island for our honeymoon either.  The costumes were to die for.  They were completely gorgeous (well at least for the first half).

As for the changes I loved that they made fun of Renesmee's name.  It was so funny that they were joking about it.  For everything else I'm not quite sure how I felt about the changes.  I think I need to see the movie a couple of more times before I decide if they worked or not.

Wanna see more?

  1. I'm going to wait until this one is on DVD to watch it. While I enjoyed the first 3 Twilight books and appreciated them for what they were - Breaking Dawn just was too far out there for me (he eats the baby out of her! Oiy!). I didn't enjoy the films very much (the acting was just not good) so I think seeing BD on the big screen is going to be a bit too cringe worthy. I'm glad so many fans (both hard core and casual) have had good things to say about it, though. That makes me a little less reluctant to see it. I really enjoyed Taylor Launter as Jacob, so I'm thrilled to read such positive praise for him. I guess I'll find out how I feel about it in the late winter/early spring.

  2. I seen it and reviewed it. I liked it...it wasn't bad. =) My favorite movie was New Moon (least favorite book though) but thats a little biased because I'm a Jacob fan and that was more about Jacob. This isn't my favorite out of all the movies. I think I'll really like Part 2, but I felt that Part 1 was a little blah. Here's a link to my review on it...

  3. @ Megan--I understand the waiting. After being disappointed with the first two films I didn't want to waste my money to see Eclipse in the theaters.

@ Carole Rae--I hope part 2 is better too. I wasn't a huge fan of what happened in this book (especially the second half)so it will be interesting to see how they bring everything to life.

  4. "I wonder if some of that has to do with my expectations being so low." *bark of laughter*

    Oh, Lisa. You kill me.

Nerd Alert! I went to the midnight showing, then again two more times. I LOVED IT!! Best one to date, no doubt.

I thought KStews acting skills really improved, loved her mommy to be bits.

I didn't like the Wolf Speak, or the imprinting. It was too weird. And really, could they please stop with the nutty looking wigs already? *sighs*

  5. I know I'm probably the only person on the planet that this didn't appeal to but I haven't read any of the books or seen the movies.

  6. I'm late but had to comment. I think this was the most well put together of all the films. And I enjoyed it because it had so much Jacob. I'm a die hard Jake fan. If he hadn't shown up in the books, I would not have kept reading because Eddie and Bella bore me to tears.

Although I enjoyed the movie I do really hate the decision Stephani Meyer made regarding Jacob's fate. After all he'd been through he deserved so much better. Anywho, I'm rambling.

My favorite scene in BD the movie was with Bella and Jacob at her wedding reception. Was it just me or did that scene feel really intimate? The chemistry was leaping from the screen at me...I never felt that with her and Eddie throughout the whole movie.
