Top Ten Trends You'd Like To See More of/Less of:
More:
1. Beautifully flawed characters. For instance Melina Marchetta writes the most amazing characters. They all have issues and struggles but they are so real and such amazing people at the same time.
3. Stand-alone novels. Sometimes series/trilogies just get to be a little much. It's nice to sit down with a book and get the whole story in one novel.
4. Kick-butt female warriors. Hermione, Katsa, Fire, Rose Hathaway, Katniss, Calla and all the others I'm forgetting. It's nice to see all the feminine stuff get thrown out the window and show that females can completely dominate.
5. Love triangles. I love a good love triangle and I don't think I'll ever get bored of them.
Less
1. Cliffhangers. I'm sick of getting to the height/conflict of the novel and all of a sudden it just ending and making us wait until the next book comes out. I'm fine with some of the bigger issues carrying over from book to book in the series, but I want the novel's main conflict to be nice and wrapped up before the novel ends.
2. Angels. I feel like so many new books are about angels. We have good ones, bad ones, half-breeds, etc. and I'm just getting a little confused on my thoughts about Angels now.
3. Novels that leave out huge bits of information so you are left totally confused and lost and have to wait until the next novel in the series to figure anything out.
4. Celebrities writing books/novels...Miley, Hillary, L.C., etc. I feel these celebrities should be super busy and not have time to write books. Don't they have multimillion dollar careers to manage?
5. Ridiculously rich teenagers getting to do whatever they want and getting away with everything. I know it's fun to dream, but what about reality?
What about you? What do you want to see more of/less of with current book trends?
The angel trend is definitely getting really annoying. Thanks for coming by!
ReplyDeleteYes! I agree about plot holes, I always feel stupid for missing something when it was never really explained in the first place.

great list and great graphics :) Thanks so much for stopping by today. Kaye—the road goes ever ever on
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures that you put with your choices! I think it's interesting how many people are listing more stand alones or less series! We can only hope that authors will start to take the hint!
ReplyDeleteBahaha I love the angel picture!! You're absolutely right about them, too: of all the supernatural creatures out there, I am over angels. I can live with more vamps, but I can't take the angels anymore. Especially since the call into play bigger issues like heaven and hell and god. Great list!
ReplyDeleteI agree. More books about Werewolves/shapeshifters would be great, because they are smexy. I haven't read many books about angels. Great list(s)!
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah, I'm a newbie to your blog, I'm looking forward to future posts. ^.^
I'm not an angel girl. I love some werewolves, but at heart I belong to the vampires. Very much agree about uber rich girls. I like the rich/celeb books where the characters are actually nice, like Jen Calonita and Joanna Philbin's books.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I HATE love triangles. I'll read a book where there is one but it just annoys me to no end. I'm on an awesome standalone streak, it's just nice to have everything wrapped up nicely! Great pictures :)
ReplyDeleteGreat list though I disagree with you on love triangles :)
ReplyDeleteI do think that cliff hangers are becoming a problem and the celebrity author trend is annoying.
Love triangles and werewolves/shapeshifters just don't work for me, but I do love the rest of your list! Can we please have some more Rose Hathaways?
ReplyDeleteGreat picks! I especially agree on the standalone novels, it feels like there is just too many series. I can't keep up with all of them(the ones I've started) even if I like to.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes to more kickass heroines!
I love the sexy shapeshifters too.

I like shifters but I think they're taking over now. I'd like to see more authors branch out the way Kresley Cole did. She has vamps, weres, valkyries and others...
ReplyDeleteI'm really tired of love triangles. Like really tired.
ReplyDeleteGreat list though :)
